How to Submit a Complaint About an ACR-Accredited Imaging Facility

Patients have the right to submit concerns about an ACR-accredited facility’s radiology imaging and treatment services.

Most complaints are most effectively addressed directly with the facility performing the examination. Therefore, the ACR encourages you to address safety and quality of care concerns with the leaders of this accredited facility.

ACR accredits for the following modalities: CT, MR, Nuclear Medicine, PET and Ultrasound. Please be aware that not all facilities are accredited for all modalities.

The ACR cannot assist with complaints involving X-ray, DEXA, billing and insurance issues, personal disputes or wait times and strongly encourages you to follow-up directly with the facility on these types of complaints. In addition, criminal related activity should be reported to the appropriate local, state or federal authorities.

To help accredited facilities notify consumers about the process for submitting complaints, the ACR has updated the plaque to be posted at their sites. The consumer complaint notice has a code that patients can scan to access the form on their smartphones or tablets. ACR-accredited facilities should replace old consumer complaint plaques with the new one.
