Getting Started

The Nuclear Medicine Accreditation Program involves the acquisition of clinical and phantom images and corresponding data for each unit. All providers that bill for nuclear medicine and PET under part B of the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule must be accredited in order to receive technical component reimbursement from Medicare.

Before applying for accreditation, please review the documents below for a summary of the accreditation process and the modality-specific program requirements.

04 Gather Data

Please use these documents and forms to gather data to be entered into the online testing package before sending images for review. Please note that these forms should not be submitted to the ACR for accreditation.

Image reviewers requested that sites submit digital images in JPEG, GIF, TIFF or BMP format for both clinical and phantom images if possible. If reviewers experience difficulty with a CD submission, they will return them and this will result in a significant delay of your accreditation.

05 Prepare for Site Visits

All outpatient facility providers of CT, MRI, breast MRI, nuclear medicine, and PET exams that bill under Part B of the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule must be accredited in order to receive payment for the technical component of these services. The ACR will perform unannounced site surveys to validate compliance with accreditation criteria.
